Though the iPhone and Android are running neck-and-neck in the U.S., the proliferation of cheap Android phones is expected to give Google’s (GOOG) OS a leg up in emerging markets. In-Stat sees sub-$150 Android phones, often featuring 2G modems, accounting for 80% of smartphones sold in Africa, India, and China in 2015. Nokia (NOK) could have more to lose than Apple (AAPL) from this trend. The U.S. Air Force plans to buy 18K iPad 2s in what could be an important milestone for Apple’s ([[AAPL]] +0.1%) foray into becoming a supplier to the federal government. The goal of the USAF’s tech buy is to replace the bag of manuals and navigation charts carried by pilots and navigators that can weigh as much as 40 pounds.
