BASEketball

Two losers that do nothing but drink beer all day can change the world as well, that is the morale of this movie. Written by David Zucker who previously had written the naked gun and starring Matt Stone and Trey Parker of South Park this movie tries to entertain by telling the story of two pathetic losers suddenly making it big.

Joe Cooper (Trey Parker) and Doug Remer (Matt Stone) never did get very far in life. When they attend the party of a High School friend they realize that everyone else seems to have gotten a lot further in life but that’s when two of their old High School bullies decides to challenge them to a game of hoops.

Joe and Doug know that they don’t stand a chance against two athletes, so they create a new variant of hoops, tentatively called BASEketball – A combination of basketball and baseball that anyone can play, no matter how athletic they are. The game is an instant hit and soon they find themselves in a national league after a businessman took special interest in the sport. The free market is strong however, and people with big money wish to corrupt the game..

Hillybillys can play the game too

Since it’s written by David Zucker and stars the two creators of South Park the low brow humor that the movie consists of comes pretty naturally, and unfortunately a lot of it has just been forced in there. A lot of the “psyche-out” moments feel as if they are just forced to make room for yet another crappy joke. Having said that I also have to say that some of the jokes are quite funny, and the impersonation of major league sports in the beginning is pretty much dead on. These moments make up for all of the horrible jokes and makes the movie an alright low brow comedy, it is hardly ever dead on but at times it does succeed in amusing me.

5/10
