As regular readers of TCOTS well know, I like to highlight incidents that show the decayed state of culture.  I do this to, hopefully, spur contemplation of where we are going [quo vadis?] and to call attention to the fact that, no matter how succesful we are in making structural changes to our political institutions, any victories we achieve will all be for naught if we don’t restore American Society to the values it once held in high regard.

A superb example of our degeneracy comes courtesy of the Manhattan Infidel who has been following the hearings being held at Star Fleet HQ over, specifically, the warp core breach that resulted in the destruction of the USS Enterprise, and, generally, about whether or not the therapeutic culture we have embraced is working.

I would urge you to read all that MI has posted, but here is a very telling excerpt from the questioning of Deanna Troi, Ship’s Counsellor aboard the now-destroyed USS Enterprise [swoosh!]:

Star Fleet Investigator: You told Engineer La Forge to take some time off, didn’t you.

'Wouldn't you rather be alone with me? With me in your mind?'

Deanna Troi: Yes. Geordi had told me that he felt sad. Very sad. I could sense he felt sad. And that made me sad.

Star Fleet Investigator: And then you went on shore leave?

Deanna Troi: Yes. I felt sad.

Star Fleet Investigator: La Forge called you when you were on leave and told you that there was a warp core breach, didn’t he.

Deanna Troi: Yes. I told him to ignore it. His first responsibility was to himself. I suggested he take a bath, read a Twilight novel and get in touch with his feelings. Then the call got disconnected. I thought maybe he disobeyed my advice and went to fix the warp core.

Star Fleet Investigator: No, the ship blew up.

Deanna Troi: Oh. That makes me sad.

We’re doomed.
