It’s a Cold Place
filed in Daily Buzz News on Sep.12, 2009
Now that I am a nomad, moving between home and the dorm, I am constantly out of half my possessions. The possession I am out of this weekend is MY SKETCHBOOK. This is greatly disturbing. All I have is my notepaper, part of which I use at school for actual notes, and part of which I use for drawings. I would’ve liked to’ve shown you some nice pictures colored with finest water soluble painting crayons, but instead all I have are my ink doodles. So – here.
This is my new way of drawing myself; in a big fur coat, á la the master, Gorey. Except my fur coat is shaggier, and generally worn with a necklace of teeth:
Why a fur coat? Well, because I come from Chicago, where we had half-year winters. I didn’t like Chicago very much. But now that I’m in Los Angeles, I miss the cold. You couldn’t pay me to go back to Illinois (that’s a lie; I think you’ll find that my prices are very reasonable) but I keep dreaming about more snowy lands.
Now, I’d like to link to a clip from Help! here; do you remember that part where the guy from the cult is huddled somewhere outdoors in London, spluttering and saying “Cold! It’s a cold place!” But there are no clips to be found, because the legal protection surrounding everything Beatles is insane, so nobody dares upload anything illegally.
So, speaking of the Beatles – have you guys heard the remastered CDs? Wow, I’ve been deprived. I grew up long after the age of the L.P., you see, so I’ve only ever heard transfers; it’s ridiculous how much better these new transfers sound than the old ones. Plus there’re lots of cool pictures in the new CD cases. I discovered all this after going to Target for shower shoes and vacuum bags, and coming out with Sargent Pepper and Help!
Successful shopping trip, yes?
No?
Okay, well, here’s a drawing of my cat Thomas welcoming me home by kneading me in the ribs:
Based on true events.
